NORDIC SOUND LAB

HISTORY

Nordic Sound Lab was built in 1988 by a collection of top composers and producers.
In their quest for a suitable property in Skara, they found an 100 years old warehouse which they turned into a world-class studio, with acoustics by the legendary Ingemar Ohlsson, a Neve V3 and a lot of nice outboard,
All of this made the whole of Sweden want to catch up with NSL.

The record industry flourished and the house held 2 well-equipped studios and a lot of offices for various production companies & record companies.

Here, artists in all genres & the biggest dance bands have queued up to record and even some foreign guests have been here and recorded, eg. Glenn Huges (Deep Purple).

The studio technicians and musicians traveled from all over the country and lived almost constantly at the Stadt-Hotel in Skara. But the times changed and the pressure eased in the studio…

In 2007, there was occasional activity in the studio. I thought it was time to re-create the same pulse that had been in the early 90's.

I bought the property in December 2007 and started the transformation.

Torgny Söderberg, who stayed the entire journey from 1988, sat in studio 3. In the same year the one and only Bert Karlsson (a Swedish icon) , sold his studio at Marianne Grammofon, so both equipment and a producer named Dille Diedricson ended up at NSL. After 1 year, phase 1 was a complete... 2 studios and 3 production rooms were up and running!

The next step was to transform the upstairs that is in the office part. There, a smaller production studio was built and an overnight stay for up to 6 people. The overnight stay is necessary for our long-distance guests, who rather put the entire budget on the studio instead of staying in hotels. There is also a small kitchenette and toilet with shower and TV room.
In 2011 my good friend and colleague Plec (Panic Room) moved into studio 2, after having been running Big Baraboom studios with me.
This studio, which was a little bit outside Skara, I sold in the spring of 2011.

The final phase was completed 2012, when we transformed the former office part into 3 production studios, 2 offices and a conference/concert department, where our little scene is used for both unplugged concerts and lectures.
So we were the studio complete now…??

Oh no.. The following year we built a living room and half the kitchen to a new control room and studio 10 was completed April 1, 2013.

But...You actually never get to the end of this kind of journey..

Studio 11 was ready in 2015 and became a project which the tenants designed themselves.
A smart production room with many functions and some smart compact-living solutions.
